THIS IS SMOKE

When I look at the abuse of skills
The misuse of the gift of arts
And the image behind the acts
My eyes become an overflowing body of water
The many souls that are lost
The many hearts that are broken
The many families that are separated
And the many communities disjointed by the acts and arts
We downgrade the image
And abuse the gifts
Just to earn the numbers
And some pieces of papers or golden images
Trading the beauty of God for shame
Yet there are supposedly more well-mannered children than the prodigals
But the well-mannered children are silent
Burying their talents in the earth
Storing their talents to be used in their graves
While the prodigals are investing their talents
And yielding increasingly corrupt fruits

THIS IS SMOKE.

The Eminence – M.H.C

It is safe to say that in recent years and decades, the cemetery has its highest tenancy occupancy rate in the year 2020. The year that historically, politically and socio-economically we were supposed to witness the manifestation of the peak advancement [improvement] in human society and quality of life.

The rapidity of the spread of the covid19 virus and the egregious and catastrophic destruction of the global human capital is a testament to the inability and incapability of humans [and science] to fully understand, respond to and resolve human or societal issues as we claimed.

The gregarious nature of man was curtailed in an attempt to preserve him from being wasted by the virus. The isolation of man [a social being] through the proposition of “healthy individualism” coupled with the constant exposure, feeding and rumination on negativity [rising deaths, hospitalization and cases of Coronavirus] triggers an outrageous deterioration of #mentalhealth.

Human institutions such as religious organizations where people tend to find solace and are historically known to enhance or foster the sense of community, togetherness, love and mutual understanding, have had their activities restricted to the bearest minimum possible and in most instances provided virtually. Additional exposure to the digital world.

Therefore, even if the world is successfully vaccinated against Covid-19 and its variants, we should be planning for a global mental health and emotional crises. And begin training and equipping our households, offices, organizations and communities with the appropriate resources to help manage it. The complexity, sensitivity, almost asymptomatic and realistically incurable nature of some #mentalhealthcrises makes it even more deadly than the virus, thereby necessitating an aggressive approach and attention to it.

Check In / What Am I Doing?

My friends support me, privately

Mostly in their hearts

My enemies rage against me, publicly

Using all the social platforms

I feel I’m inspiring lives

Obviously I’m creating barriers

I believe I’m building bridges

But the walls speak louder

The wall builders have every reason

To be angry with me because

I am building bridges with the tools

That could have been used to build walls

They are totally public yet highly rivalrous

But the question is what am I doing?

.

If I don’t know who I am

I would believe the obvious

Actually if I don’t know who’s I AM

I probably would have been lost

In the midst of the endless negativities I see

I found hope in timeless words I often don’t see

It is easier to tell someone how to calm a storm

When you have never witnessed a tempest

But when the wind is boisterous

You will almost forget that you are alive.

.

I am telling you someone’s story

Someone that’s dear to you

But you don’t know

Someone you know so well

But don’t know how they are doing

Someone that needs you

But you care less about their needs

Someone that needs your attention

But you think they have enough

Someone that’s living with you

But you don’t know how they’re living.

.

I need a little help from you

Just check in on your friends and family members

Even if they seem to be doing well

What you see outside, especially on social media

Is not really what is happening inside

And you checking in may just be

The difference between resting and taking a rest.

And you checking in may just be the difference between resting and taking a rest

REST IN POWER, KING T’CHALLA

The beauty of Wakanda

Is slain upon his prime

How are the mighty

Fallen in the midst of the pandemic

And the weapon of vibranium perished

I am distressed for you, Chadwick

Your inspiration for us was transcendent

Surpassing the motivation of superheroes

The cold hand of death

Has rested upon the King

Who brought hope to the oppressed

And restored self-confidence to the bullied

Oh death! Where is your sting

Oh cancer! Where is your power

You wrestled with the one

Who brought pride to melanin

Now he’s gone like

An athlete dying young

Resting like other heroes

Who sought to bring dignity to humanity

But even more glorious

He is resting in the bosom of his creator

Haven fulfilled the purpose

For his existence

I am happy for you, Chadwick

For your soul finally escapes

The misery and bad business

That take place on this earth

You will no longer wake

To hear that beloved brother / cousin

Has been wasted

By those meant to protect them.

Its with tears in our eyes

Great sorrows in our hearts

And empty big shoe to fill

That we celebrate your life- well spent

And triumphant exit from the burden of this world

To the beautiful mansion of the Father

Till we meet again,

Rest in power

King T’Challa🙅‍♂️

Dr. Boseman Chadwick

We Are Humans Too

We live in an overly sensitive world

In a very delicate moment in the history

Of and among fragile humanity

This calls for almost extreme thoughtfulness

In words

In deeds

In creativity

In expressions

And in endless lists

However,

We should all also realize that

We are all fallible people,

Made from the dust

We trample under feet daily,

And be willing to forgive

The wrong

When an offence is observed

Not necessarily for the offender

But for ourselves

For our souls

For our mental wellbeing

And for our future

We are still humans.

Why Me? Why Now?

There is a time

And a timeline

For every life event

Some create indelible memories

Some wreak life-altering catastrophes

It maybe man-made

Or beyond man’s control

In either of the events

In any of the outcomes

One thing is constant

And one thing is under man’s power:

And that is our

Choice of reaction or perception to it.

.

We may not be able to influence nature

The power to change everyone

Is not in our jurisdiction

But the determination to see

The brighter side of every experience

And the ultimate influence

Over our happiness in life

Lies in our hearts of heart

And this is more important

Than anything that might

Have happened or is happening to us.

.

I cannot downplay the effects

Of certain heartbreaking events

In our lives

I am not saying that

It will always be an easy decision

To be optimistic or find the silver-lining

It may not first option to mind

That’s why it’s the most rewarding

And so we need to be strong for us

And for our future

Because, at the end of day

We are responsible for what

Was said or done in our bodies

Not necessarily what happened to us.
